Universal Studios Singapore: Travel 10,000 miles and take a fascinating tour of our sister park in Resorts World Sentosa

Universal Studios Singapore.

Editor's note: This trip report from Universal Studios Singapore was contributed by our fan Chuck. Before we get started I want to say thanks to him for providing us with this fascinating and very detailed look at a Universal park in another part of the world! Take it away, Chuck...   While on a recent trip to Singapore, I scheduled an extra day to visit the Universal Studios Singapore theme park. I have always wondered about the similarities and differences between the Orlando and … [Read more...]

OI Share: Thanksgiving dinner at Hard Rock Hotel is our new family tradition (but I still won’t let those minions swap my turkey for bananas!)

Thanksgiving at Hard Rock Hotel - Universal Orlando.

It’s that time of year again… baking, cooking, cleaning, cooking, and of course more CLEANING. It's the constant work, work, work that comes with every holiday, whether you are a small family of three or you lay claim to a family of twenty. Yes, I'm referring to Thanksgiving and the barrage of chores that come along with a holiday centered on things you are thankful for. But what about tradition, having fun, and focusing on the family? I'm here to tell you about how we have the tradition … [Read more...]

OI Share: Celebrating our son’s birthday at Universal Orlando was the “most rewarding” experience ever

Birthday trip to Universal Orlando Resort.

Thank you, Universal Orlando, for making my five-year-old's birthday the BEST ever! Two weeks ago we stayed at Royal Pacific Resort, which was great. Right away I want to give a shout out to our valet Juan for going over and above. Apparently he noted that the second day of our stay was my son's birthday and, after a long day at the park, we came back to our room to a plate of very yummy cupcakes. Sorry, I don't have a picture because they were devoured immediately! Back to the … [Read more...]

OI Share: A guide to the rides at Universal for larger guests

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit test seats.

Like many in the traveling public, I fall into the category of the obese. Despite the label I'm a very healthy guy (per my family's doctor) who absolutely loves the Orlando theme parks, including Universal Orlando Resort. Unfortunately, not all attractions are equally accessible to all body types. If you consider yourself a larger person, plus size, curvy, or even just big boned, there are some factors you'll want to consider as you plan the rides you're going to tackle at Universal. Keep in … [Read more...]

OI Share: One family’s incredible 2,000-mile, 36-hour trip to Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights 2013.

Although our family has been going to Universal Orlando since 1991, I never really paid much attention to Halloween Horror Nights. First of all, even though I am a huge fan of horror movies, I always hated fun houses as a kid, especially the ones with live people in them. So even though I was aware of Universal's HHN event, I never had any desire to visit.   A tradition begins Two years ago, one of my industry's national trade show happened to take place in Orlando during early … [Read more...]

How to convert a theme park vacation naysayer into a fan for life: Bring them to Universal Orlando and follow this advice!

Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure.

My daughter and I could spend every vacation at a theme park. We love the rides, the shopping and the frenzy! However, my husband and son do not share our passion. We have managed a handful of Disney trips as a family, some more successful than others. The kids and I also have season passes to our almost local theme park and its sister water park, but our time inside those parks is always brief. Despite all the signs pointing towards a relaxing beach vacation, I had to plan a trip to … [Read more...]

OI Share: Take a Universal trip through time as one family recreates photo ops across a decade

OI Share: A Universal trip through time.

Editor's note: Thanks to John for sending in this great message and for allowing us to publish his amazing photos. First let me say what a great job you are doing with your site. I know how hard it is to keep a site up to date. My family just got back from a trip to Universal Studios Orlando (June 2-6). I have been using your blog and posts to help me plan and keep up to date about the parks. My family has been going UOR since 2001 and have had some really great memories there. This … [Read more...]

Endurance Shield: An extraordinary vacation deserves an extraordinary sunscreen

photo-oi

As the daughter and wife to OrlandoInformer.com's founder, Dan Hatfield, Noa and I spend a lot of our free time at the parks. Dan has taught us many things -- how to avoid the lines, where to get the best breakfast, and the importance of arriving fully prepared for the weather! Of course, for most of the year, the main element to keep your eye on is the sun. In the summertime, it takes mere moments for those rays to warm the skin and leave more than a sunkissed glow. I've been searching for … [Read more...]

Adventures in pool hopping at the Universal Orlando on-site hotels: Royal Pacific, Hard Rock & Portofino Bay

The pool area at Portofino Bay Hotel.

One of the many perks of staying at a Universal Orlando on-site hotel is the chance to enjoy the amenities at all three hotels. Universal sometimes refers to staying on-site as staying at a "12-diamond" hotel, because guests have access to three "four-diamond" properties. With this benefit, you can take a break from the theme park craziness by strolling the immaculate resort grounds, feasting in all the fantastic restaurants, or in our case, taking a dip in any one of the luscious on-site hotel … [Read more...]

OI Share: Celebrating my 21st birthday at Universal Orlando was the best present I could have asked for

Turning 21 at Universal CityWalk.

I used the Orlando Informer website for absolutely everything when it came to my 21st birthday vacation. I planned a three-day, two-night trip to Universal Orlando Resort starting with my choice of hotel, Loews Portofino Bay. I booked my standard double-queen bay view room several days in advance with the annual pass holder’s discount, with the total coming around $250.00 per night. The day before my check-in I looked back on the website and discovered the deluxe double-queen room at $209.00. … [Read more...]
